Open Google. If possible, use a private browsing window so your results aren't affected by your search history. Search your business name or a keyword and location (e.g., pizza in Minneapolis). Now imagine you’re a potential customer looking for information. Are you easy to find? Is your information readily available?

Follow these tips to build your brand online:

1) Keep your online presence consistent. Make sure you use the same name and picture across all social media channels to avoid confusion. The easier it is for customers to find you, the better!

2) Develop your company’s “voice.” Your customers should start to recognize the way your brand sounds. The best way to do this is to keep one person or one group of people maintaining all accounts.

3) Stick to quality content. Just like your website, pictures and video will give your social media presence a boost. In fact, a study by Twitter found that tweets that include pictures or videos bring in about 30% more retweets than text-only updates.

4) Get the buzz going. Talking up your business is great but inspiring others to recommend you is even better! A great way to do this is to encourage your customers to check in when visiting your business or to post pictures including your unique hashtag. After all, your happy customers are an invaluable asset!
