6 Ways to Chill Out Your Brain
By Kathleen Montecillo

We're straying away from our normal content about social media, business, etc. and focusing on our #1 VIP: You. Giving it all for your business is great, but if you aren't taking care of yourself, your work will surely reflect that. So we're here to share a few hints on how to destress and declutter that smart little brain of yours. Because nothing's better than a refreshed mind.

Start in the morning.

Time slips away from us really fast. That's why it's important to set aside time in the morning to get yourself ready. No one likes feeling rushed, and when you're jumping out of bed and trying to find your shoes so you can run out the door, you set a precedent for your time at work. Make sure you give yourself enough time in the morning to do you. Whether it's drinking hot tea (and actually taking time to enjoy it) or giving yourself enough time to make a good breakfast (no, a granola bar doesn't count).

Drink more water throughout the day.

Being hydrated makes a difference. "Being dehydrated puts a major strain on those important organs, depletes energy, erodes focus, and increases irritability," notes Liz Josefsberg, author of Target 100. If water bores you to tears, then spice it up! Add fruit, put it in a pretty bottle, and just leave it on your desk. It will stare at you all day and remind you it wants to be friends. Drink up!

Nothing's wrong with a little sweat.

Now for the love/hate relationship of working out. You don't have to be drenching in sweat to get a work out in. Even a little walk after work counts. We know the days are long and your couch is comfy, but your body craves a little TLC. Why not show it you appreciate all it does for you? Whether you're a self-motivated gym junkie or need someone to kick your butt in spin class, working out allows you to focus on you.

Eat more greens.

We're not talking about a little sprinkle of lettuce on your taco. We're talking about getting leafy greens into that bod, and foods like zucchini, cucumbers, cruciferous veggies (think broccoli and cauliflower), and leeks. Another bonus to these guys? Eating lots of them will keep you satisfied for a long time. We aren't saying ditch all the goods in your life. But practice moderation and incorporate these along the way. You're going to feel better and more energized, we promise.

Back away from the phone.

Emails, Instagram, news feeds ... It's so easy to be consumed by all the information we have at our fingertips, but we need to remember what it's like to be at one with ourselves. Gather your thoughts or even write them down old-school style with pen and paper! Make this a time to reflect, strategize, and plan. Technology can be put on pause. Don't worry, it will still be there when you get back.

Get a good night's rest.

Seems impossible with all we have to do in a single day to actually go to bed early, but it does make a difference. This is your time to relax, refocus, and recharge. Using apps can help too. The iPhone Bedtime app adjusts what time you should go to bed based on how much sleep you want. It's hard to get into this, but creating healthy habits will make you as productive as you can be!
